NEW YORK (CelebrityAccess) Mark Calderon, who was assaulted on stage by Color Me Badd co-member Bryan Abrams at a concert in New York State, has tried to explain the situation to TMZ.
The band was wrapping a performance of their reunion tour with, of course, “I Wanna Sex You Up,” when Abrams, as Calderon was saying goodbye to the crowd, walked onstage and shoved Calderon over. Calderon hit his head on some stage equipment and had to be treated at a nearby hospital for neck and back pain.
Some have said that Abrams was upset that Calderon was taking the lead spot on the song. Others said he was upset with the sound quality or maybe his voice.
“He was drunk. He was intoxicated,” Calderon, 47, told TMZ on Monday. “The man needs some serious help right now. Really, he does.”
Calderon says he hasn’t talked to Abrams since the incident at the Lago Resort & Casino in Tyre, N.Y. Abrams was charged with attempted assault in the third degree and held on $2,000 bail.
Calderon was asked about the band’s future.
“Listen, for me, I’m going to always do what I do. I love the fans, I love the music, I’m always going to perform,” Calderon said. “For [Abrams], right now, like I’ve told him before, many, many times: ‘Go get help, Bryan.’ That’s what he needs to do. And if he does that, it’ll be good. We don’t want to see anything bad happen to anybody. So, he needs to start with just getting help, and that’s where it needs to be right now.”
He added that he doesn’t intend on pressing charges.
“The police did their investigation. I gave them all the information,” Calderon told TMZ. “It’s in the prosecutor’s hands right now, so he’s going to pretty much decide on where it goes from there.”
